Simulation Specialist

The Center for Computer-Aided Design, The University of Iowa, is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Simulation Specialist for the National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS).  This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of virtual-reality type 3d, visual models for use in real-time ground vehicle simulations within a team-centered environment.  Primary responsibilities include developing and maintaining real-time visual models of special effects, cultural features, vehicles, roadways, terrain and environments.  Additional responsibility includes enhancement and maintenance of visual models and correlated virtual environment datasets, specifications and configuration files.  To communicate in a timely fashion with other team members, providing assistance with documentation and presentation of developments and results associated with driving simulation research.  Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students.  A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Reasonable (1-3 years) job-related experience in 3d computer graphics or animation with emphasis on scene development, demonstrable understanding of surface attributes including lighting, texturing, material properties is required.  A working knowledge of Multigen-Paradigm Creator with Road Tools option is required.    Extensive experience with 3D graphics and bitmap graphics and associated software packages is required.  Demonstrated experience with additional 3D modeling software that includes scenegraph or hierarchy representation and manipulation, articulation, level of detail and inheritance is desired.  Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work environment is required.  Salary is commensurate based upon selected candidate’s education, experience, skills and other relevant factors.  Candidates for this position must apply through the University of Iowa employment website at http://jobs.uiowa.edu.  Resume and at least three references required.  The University of Iowa is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.  Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
