The National Advanced Driving Simulator is more than just the hardware and software that constitute the various simulators. NADS represents a collaboration among computer scientists, engineers, faculty, pharmacists, physicians and social scientists working together to answer critical questions and developing new simulation approaches. NADS is unique in having highly qualified researchers across a broad variety of fields. This unique combination of experienced people allow NADS to form successful research teams to tackle cutting edge problems that others would find difficult to adress.

From the inception of motion-based driving simulation, NADS faculty and staff have been working together to push the scientific and engineering boundaries that define state of the art driving simulation. Many of the current NADS staff had their start at the Iowa Driving Simulator (IDS) which was one of the first hexapod-based driving simulators with accurate physics-based real-time vehicle dynamics. The current staff and faculty at NADS represent more than 100 years of combined experience in the relatively young field of driving simulation. Additionally, many professionals in the driving simulation community can trace their roots back to work at the IDS, NADS and the University of Iowa.

Given it's past and present experience of its people, NADS is poised to take its place among the leaders as the center for driving simulation research.
