How do I get to NADS?

Gary Gaffney


Gary R Gaffney, MD has an appointment as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, and as a staff physician at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, he has published scientific reports on a broad range of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric subjects including Autism, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, Paraphilia, and Performance Enhancing Drugs.

Dr. Gaffney received BS and MD degrees at the University of Iowa. He completed training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and the UIHC. He was on faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center from 1986 to 1993. He has served on several editorial boards, and foundations including the Jim Eisenreich Foundation for Tourette Syndrome.

In conjunction with Dr Tim Brown and other colleagues at NADS, Dr. Gaffney worked recently on "A Randomized Clinical Trial to Assess the Sensitivity of the CRCDS-MiniSim Driving Simulator to the Effects of Alcohol". Current studies include "The Effects of Cannabis on Driving Performance". In conjunction with Dr Brown, and colleagues at the University of Virginia, a study will be launched examining driving in Asperger Disorder.

Other NADS related interests include a driving survey for persons with Autism, and the development of a pedestrian safety simulator for children.
